Adidas
A company in Europe, and the second largest in the world. Adidas is a German company that designs and manufactures shoes, clothing and accessories. It is the largest sportswear company in Europe, and the second largest in the world. Adidas has a rich history, dating back to 1949 when the company was founded by Adolf Dassler.
At the beginning, Adidas’s main product was ‘Gazelle’, which is a type of shoes. The company evolved from being a manufacturer of sports shoes to a global leader in sports marketing. Adidas is well known for its sports shoes and clothing, such as track suits, football uniforms, baseball and cricket merchandise, sportswear and sport accessories.
Dassler’s brother Rudolf joined the company soon after, and together they created the “Gebräder Dassler Schuhfabrik” in Herzogenaurach, Germany. The company produced a shoe called “Gebräder Dassler” that they called the “Adi” in honor of their brother. In the 1960s, Rudolf renamed the shoe “adidas,” the Latin translation of “Adi.
Dassler was one of the original founders of the Dassler Brothers Shoe Company, which he founded with his older brother Rudolf Dassler. Adidas is best known for the shoes that it produces, but it also produces clothing, accessories, watches and other sporting equipment.
The brothers split up after World War II, with Rudolf taking control of what became known as the Adidas Group.
Adolf and his brother, Rudolf Dassler, were both successful athletes and wanted to combine their experience in shoe design with the creation of a new sports shoe for long-distance events. The name is derived from the first two letters of their last name, “Adi” and “Das”.
Today, Adidas has over 20,000 employees worldwide and sells over 350 million pairs of shoes each year.
The company’s first shoes were primarily designed for athletes. The logo was first introduced in 1952 and hasn’t changed since. The iconic logo is a pair of minimalistic and contrasting white and black stripes with three stripes on the left and right.
